What Is The Steering Control Of Agricultural Vehicles?

Today, with the rapid development of precision farming, the steering control technology of agricultural vehicles is directly related to operational efficiency and safety. How to achieve high-precision and high-reliability steering control has become a core challenge in the field of agricultural automation.

Steering control methods for agricultural vehicles

A method based on intelligent control

Neural networks and fuzzy control are currently two major intelligent control technologies. Both can simulate human intelligent behavior and solve many uncertain and nonlinear automation problems without the need for precise mathematical models. In the field of automatic navigation for agricultural vehicles, intelligent control technology has demonstrated significant advantages. By combining neural networks and genetic algorithms, a vehicle control system with self-learning ability is established. The system regards the motion model of agricultural vehicles as a nonlinear system. The navigation route can be optimized according to different constraints. Although the motion model has a good control effect on agricultural vehicles traveling on flat roads, it is not suitable for controlling agricultural vehicles traveling on sloping roads.

A method based on PID control

Conventional PID control is a linear control method. Its algorithm is simple and practical, and it is widely applied in process control. The PID controller has three calibration links: proportional, integral and differential.

  1. The proportional link (P) proportionally reflects the deviation signal of the system. Once a deviation occurs, the controller immediately takes control action to reduce the deviation. The larger the proportional coefficient, the faster the adjustment speed.

  2. The integration link (I) can eliminate the steady-state error of the system. The strength of its effect depends on the integration constant, but it is prone to cause a decrease in the stability of the system and an increase in oscillation, etc.

  3. The differential link (D) reflects the changing trend of the deviation signal and can introduce an effective early correction signal into the system before the value of the deviation signal increases, thereby accelerating the system's action speed and reducing the adjustment time.

The steering control system of wheeled agricultural machinery is a control system with constantly changing target set values, and its rapid response and stability are the main issues. The proportional and differential correction links of the PID controller play a certain role in improving the performance of the control system. The integration link can eliminate the steady-state error of the system, but it will bring negative impacts such as reduced stability, which is unfavorable for steering control. Therefore, the steering control system adopts the P and D correction links to establish the controller.
